Flood Aftermath: Several areas of Budhal still inaccessible

RAJOURI, Sept 15: Most of the areas in Budhal are still cut off from the rest of the state from both Reasi and Rajouri sides due to heavy landslides and at many place roads were washed away in the flash floods.
On Rajouri-Kotranka-Budhal-Reasi road a portion of bridge on Ans river at Kotraka was washed away in the flash flood and could not be restored till today. During his recent visit to Rajouri-Poonch districts Brig Biswajeet Bhatacharya, Chief Engineer , Border Road Organization (Samparak) assured that within 72 hours a make shift bridge will be sent to Kotranka for temporary restoration of connectivity between Rajouri and Budhal. But even after 4 days the acconnectivity couldn't be restored and people of the area after covering distance between 5-10 kilometers on foot and using ropes to climb on bridge purchasing necessary items from Kotranka market. Mohd Shakeel resident of Gunda, Mohd Hussain resident of samot , Kewal and many other said that no relief material has reached in most of the flood affected areas.
"Only on Sunday some relief material was air dropped at Gunda and was distributed among the victims at Gunda , Gadyog, Budhal etc. But in most of the areas people facing many difficulties and looking for official aid.
"Relief material could not be reached at Khawas due to damages to the roads .About 15 families have shifted to Barsai, Keri and taking shelter in a school. Some more families also need urgent relief and hoped that on Tuesday the relief will reach to these people" said a police officer posted at Khawas.
Ramesh Kumar and others said that the ration at government shops is not available at many places and at some places people getting less quantity and are forced to purchase at higher prices from Kotranka market.
Health authorities have directed the employees to remain in the health centres but people complaint of shortage of medicines and man power in these centers. While talking to media persons Sukh Pal Singh SDM said that every effort is being made to provide relief to all the victims in the area and soon all the areas will be covered . Sources said that road repairing work is in progress and relief material has been reaching at Kotranka for further distribution in Budhal, Samote , Kewal , Khawas etc on horses.
