MENDHAR, Sept 15: Two powerful IEDs (improvised explosive devices), believed to have been planted by militants, rocked the Line of Control (LoC) at Sonawali Gali near forward Naini post in Mendhar, Poonch, this morning, resulting in the death of two army porters and injuries to at least 13 others, including two BSF personnel.
A vehicle of 88 Bn of BSF and another of 15 Mahar Regiment were on way to the forward Naini post when a powerful IED exploded at about 10 am, according to official sources.
In this blast, BSF driver Ajay Rabbani and cop Rajesh Kumar sustained critical injuries. The second IED exploded five minutes later when the army vehicle was very close to it, the sources added.
In this blast, two army porters lost their lives while 11 others sustained severe injuries. The dead included Mohammad Riaz, son of Mohammad Khursheed, and Khan Mohammad, son of Bagga. Both hailed from Chui Mankote. The seriously injured included Mohammad Khursheed, son of Mir Mohammad, an 11th class student of government higher secondary school, Mankote.
While Khan was said to have died on the spot, Riaz succumbed to his injuries at Command Hospital, Udhampur, where he was airlifted along with Khursheed and the two injured BSF personnel.
The injured also included two or so army men who too were hospitalised. The army vehicle was carrying porters for the delivery of ration at a forward army post.
Both the vehicles were damaged badly with the impact of blasts. Senior army officers visited the spot soon after the explosions rocked the area.
