Army scouts dazzle in 3rd Ladakh Marathon | | | Early Times Report Leh, Sept 15: Army Ladakh scouts dazzled the 3rd Ladakh Marathon was organised by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council at Leh on September 14. According to press release, a total of approximate 3,000 participants from across the world took part in the Marathon. The aim of the Marathon was to foster National Spirit and encourage Sports in Ladakh. The 3rd Ladakh Marathon had four categories namely the Khardung La Challenge Ultra Marathon of 72 Kms, the Full Marathon of 42 Kms, the Half Marathon of 21 Kms and the 7 Kms run in which maximum school children participated. The Ladakh Marathon is the World's Highest and Toughest Marathon held at 3,524 meter (11,562 feet) altitude. The team of Army Ladakh Scouts participated in the event with great zeal and enthusiasm. The nunnus of Ladakh Scouts performed exceptionally well. Rifleman Shabbir Hussain, Rifleman Rigzin Nurboo and Rifleman Tsering Gyatso stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Khardung La Challenge Ultra Marathon of 72 Kms respectively. Recruit Shokat Ali and Recruit Fayaz Ali secured 1st and 3rd positions respectively in the Full Marathon of 42 Kms. The winners were felicitated with prizes and the event culminated with a cultural programme performed by the Ladakh Cultural Society. Thubstan Tsewang, Member of Parliament Ladakh, Rigzin Spalbar, Chief Executive Councillor Leh and Simrandeep Singh, District Commissioner Leh graced the event with their presence. The Indian Army provided full administrative support to the organisers towards smooth conduct of the Marathon. |
