Rajouri flood victims allege discrimination, DC assures timely relief to all

Rajouri,  Sept 16 : Amid tall claims of the government of reaching relief to those affected by the recent floods across the state, victims of recent flood flash furry in various areas in Rajouri district have been alleging that they are being neglected by the government and no relief has reached to them. Victims have also alleged that financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to each victim family announced by the Prime Minister at Jammu has also not reached to them. MLAs, MLCs, Political leaders have also been alleging that most of the people in their constituencies have not received the official relief yet. However, Jatender Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (DC) interacted with the reporters in his chamber today and categorically denied that district administration has received any relief/ financial aid either from Union government or from State government . “District administration has not received any relief for the victims of Rajouri district till today. Whatever relief was distributed to the victims was arranged by the district administration from its own resources and was sent by few NGOs, Rotary Club, Red Cross” said DC. He further added that he has managed relief material including ration (35 kg to each affected family), utensil, tents mattresses, plastic tarpaulins (from old stores) and NGO has donated bread , biscuits, water bottles, tents , tarpaulins, clothes etc. “As far as free ration for 6 months to the victim families is concerned, as people claim that CM has twitted the same, I would like to make it clear that I have not received any such message in writing from the government. I can’t act on press reprts and tweets.” Said DC. He also added that he had distributed free ration 35 kg each to each victim family offered by him as DM is subjected to audit. For the last few days victims of flood and rains have been complaining that they have been neglected by the State government as far as relief is concerned. Many areas in Budhal, Manjakot, Darhal, Thanamandi, Kotranka , Kalakot, Triyath tehsils were badly affected by the recent flash floods followed by landslides.  Most of the victims in these areas have alleged that state government has not being paying any heed towards their problems. The district administration under supervision of Jatender K Singh, IAS,Deputy Commissioner; Mubasir Latifi, SSP ; Saleem Malik , ADDC and others have been providing succor to the flood victims from whatever  sources they have at their disposal.
Deputy Commissioner said that administration has been spending from its funds . Out of Rs 1.80 crores administration has spent Rs 1.37 crores including Rs 1.5 lakh each to the kin of 71 killed in flash flood furry and Rs25 lakhs for restoration of Power to various areas including Rajouri city which was restored after 9 days. To make the relief distribution process transparent and effective, Deputy Commissioner has constituted committees headed by concerned tehsildars  to assess the loss to the property and lives at spots. “To make it further fool proof flying squads headed by honest and dedicated district officers have also been constituted for each tehsil and will report to my office on daily basis” said Jatender Singh, DC.
He added that this process will ensure that relief has reached to 90 genuine victims of recent natural calamity. He further said that the district has suffered loss of Rs 190 crores and needs Rs90 crores as immediate help for temporary restoration of essential services. He also advised the victims not to visit the offices of Deputy Commissioner, SDMs, tehsildars, police stations etc for relief as the members of the constituted teams will visit them at their places on scheduled days and the process will be completed by September,22 positively.
