No water supply to Jagti camp for last 12 days
Incessant rains leave migrants waterless

Jammu, Sept 16 : Not withstanding the tall claims of authorities that restoration work was going on in full swing the water supply to Migrant township Jagti remained off on the 12th consecutive day today. For the last 12 days inhabitants of the township were facing acute shortage of water as supply was snapped following the incessant rains that lashed all over the state a couple of days ago resulting into the inundated water reservoir and damages to the supply lines to the camp. People have been put to hardships as they were subject to carry water from hand pumps to top floors of their flats which was an uphill task besides catering 500 to 600 souls by a hand pump was not sufficient. “This water is not hygiencally good for drinking purposes. It is not even lab tested but we are helpless to drink it inviting health hazard,” said Jawahar Lal Raina a resident of the camp, adding “due to pathetic approach of authorities we have been left neglected at all fronts and nobody cares for our welfare here.” Migrant township at Jagti is having three Over Head Tanks (OHTs) catering a populace of nearly 15000 to 16000 souls of which water is being lifted from Tawi river. But when it rains particularly in monsoon season the reservoir gets submerged resulting failure of water supply for days together to the camp. While talking to Early Times Jagti Tenement Committee (KPs body in the camp) Shadi Lal Pandita said that we have called on Relief Commissioner (Migrants) RK Pandita and apprised him of various problems being faced by the migrants including the present water crisis in the Jagti camp. We suggested the Commissioner to dug the big wells in the Jagti camp as there is plenty of water beneath the ground here and lift the same to OHTs which will give smooth water supply to the camp in all seasons. The Commissioner, he said, assured us that water supply to the camp will be restored at the shortest possible time.
