One and a half month on, probe committee fails to submit report
Termination of pregnancy at JK Medicity

JAMMU, Sept 17: The slow functioning of Department of Health Services Jammu could be gauged from the fact that the three members committee, constituted by Director Health to probe into the incident of termination of eight months pregnancy at JK Medicity Hospital, has failed to submit the report even after the lapse of more than one and half month.
The Director Health Services Jammu had suspended the license of JK Medicity and ordered its seizure after a woman, who was in her eighth month of pregnancy, was aborted there on July 25.
The Director Health had also constituted a three members committee to look into the circumstances that had led to the incident. The committe members included Deputy Director Health Dr B.P Sharma, CMO Arvind Raina and Medical Superintendent of Government Hospital Sarwal, Robinder Khajuria.
"Astonishingly, according to the order of Director Health, no time frame was fixed by Director Health for the committee for submission of report, due to which still the enquiry of committee has not been completed", sources said.
Sources said that the post mortem report has not yet been given to the committee members, while the case sheet, which was to be submitted by JK Medicity administration has also not been submitted before the committee.
They informed that though JK Medicity administration started functioning after a stay order from the court, the committee members were under tremendous pressure to go slow with the probe process.
"JK Medicity is already functional and in case the probe report goes against it, that would result in great loss to it which is why the committee is being pressurized", sources said, adding that if the committee would continue to work with same pace, it would take months to complete the report.
Director Health Jammu, B S Pathania said that the post mortem report was yet to come while the case sheet was to be submitted by management of JK Medicity. "When we ask them for case sheet, they say it is with police", he said.
Pertinently, Channi Himmat police has booked Dr Amarjeet Singh and Multi-Purpose Health Worker Roma Devi for their negligence which led to the abortion of pregnant lady in the JK Medicity Hospital at Narwal.
The pregnant lady was under the treatment of Dr Indu Khoda, who recommended her for injection and some medicines after she complained of abdominal pain. Following Dr Indu's prescription, the lady and her husband went to the JK Medicity hospital where she was allegedly given wrong treatment, resulting in her abortion.
The incident took place on July 25 night when Stuti Sharma, wife of Rakesh Sharma, resident of tehsil Nowshera, district Rajouri, was brought by her family members to JK Medicity for medical check up. In the hospital, she was given wrong treatment in place of another patient and was later aborted.
