Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 18: Union Minister in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh today suggested a Kashmiri Pandit writer to open a small research centre to ascertain the reasons which made KP community leaderless at present.
While releasing the Deepak Raj's book In Wanderland at Ashoka Palace Bantalab near here today, he said, besides the research can also be done that why word migration was attached to displacement of Kashmiri Pandits from Valley as the same was not appropriate to a community which is internally displaced.
He also said that if the displacement is not time bound it becomes directionless and if it continues for longer period it becomes rootlessness.
He expressed the hope that Mr Deepak will give a thought to it and start research on the same.
Dr Singh said there were three communities in the Sub Continent, who excelled over the other communities. They included Malyali's, Bengalis and Kashmiri Pandits. The KPs were intellectually enterprising and super in the Sub-Continent. But it suffered a lot after displacement and was genetically affected. This has also been cause of mushrooming of leaders, he added.
He said that three generations of Kashmiri Pandits have suffered due to their displacement from Kashmir Valley in 1989 and many people left even Jammu in search of their livelihood outside State and some have gone to foreign countries. This has posed a question that under such circumstances who will return to Valley?
He said the situation has also changed in Kashmir as the old generation is not there now and the young people don't recognize each other.
Dr Singh said that it takes three generations in imbibing the Sanaskars in a community and very less time in eroding them.
He said the Kashmiri Pandit community which has given leadership to independent India for decades together is virtually leaderless at present.
Dr Jitendra Singh said during the Simla pact signed by the then Prime Minister, Mrs Indira Gandhi with Pakistan a battery of Kashmiri Pandit leaders was present on the occasion.
The Union Minister said that he has been telling his friends in Valley that Kashmir suffered a lot due to mass exodus of Pandits and they will also feel this loss some day.
He said the two communities of Valley Hindus and Muslims were supplementing each other and that was the beauty of Kashmir. Pandits were worshiping nature and considered river Jehlum (Vitasta) as mother.
The community never violated sanctity of nature, he added.
Dr Singh expressed the hope that the book written by Deepak will become signatory to the period which has witnessed turmoil and will help as a reference book for researchers.
He, while acclaiming the book said one can tell good things without naming any one. The book has satirically raised some serious issues about migration, displacement and leadership in community, he added.
Reading his paper on the book, Shiban Khybri a freelance journalist said that Deepak has departed from conventional style of writing. He has resorted to use of stair, humor and even criticism against the leaders and even community members for the response should have towards exodus, he added.
He said the book In Wanderland is based on Stain's theory depicting on pangs of migration and Deepak has succeeded in making his point.
While, speaking Deepak said, that pangs of migration forced him to pen down the book. `` The book has been written to hold with the best intensions the mirror to derailment of Kashmiri Pandit community caused by mass exodus and absence of genuine efforts by leaders to put it back on rails''.
The stage was managed by P K Raina.
