Phone lines, power connectivity restored in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir | | | New Delhi, Sept 19 : Life is slowly inching towards normalcy in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir as the phone lines have now become operational in the state along with renewed electricity and gas supply. Many banks and ATMs have also started operating. The Ministry of Power had taken a slew of measures to restore the heavily damaged power transmission lines and distribution system in the state's flood-hit areas. Disruption of electricity was severe in most of the areas of Jammu and Kashmir, which witnessed disastrous floods in its history of last six decades. Union Minister of State for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal, had earlier instructed the senior officers of Power sector CPSUs to rush to Jammu and Kashmir and assess the situation in the flood battered state. There was severe damage to high tension, low tension lines, transformers and sub- stations which were either submerged or washed away. |
