JAMMU, Sept 19: The maxim "Justice delayed is justice denied" seems fit in this case as even after four years of the mysterious death of Karan Sharma at Baba Pedh in Udhampur, his wailing mother is yet to receive the FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) report.
On fourth death anniversary of her son, the moist eyes of Usha Sharma (50), a widow, of Indira Nagar, Miran Sahib, here told everything. The grieved woman said she had every right to know about the cause of death of her son.
According to police, Karan (22) had died mysteriously after drowning in Tawi near Baba Pedh, Udhampur, when he along with four other friends, Rajan Sharma, Nitin Kumar, Vicky Singh and Pardeep Singh, was taking a bath in the river on September 28, 2010. The family members, however, refuses to trust the police version of the incident. They alleged that police had converted the murder case of Karan into a case of mysterious death due to the pressure of a MLA as one of the four youth, who were with him, was closely related to him.
"Behind the death of my son, is well planned conspiracy and police department and some influential politicians are trying to save the main accused", alleged Usha Sharma.
She said that she repeatedly lodged her complaint with the Chief Minister's Grievance Cell and requested every time for constitution of a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to probe the reasons behind the killing of her son but all in vain.
"Police has questioned Rajan Sharma and Nitin Kumar but has never called Vicky Singh and Pardeep Singh of Udhampur for questioning because they are influential and have close relation with MLA", alleged Usha Sharma.
She said that on 26th September 2014, she was very happy as her elder son Pawan Sharma had been selected in Indian Air Force (IAF) and Karan had come from Udhampur where he was pursuing BBA from GDC Udhampur, to see off his brother.
"On 27th September, Karan along with his two friends Rajan Sharma and Nitin Kumar left for Jammu railway station, from where Karan had to board local train for Udhampur", Usha Sharma recalled, adding that on next day, she got a message that her son was missing.
Elder brother Pawan Sharma claimed, "In the last four years, despite our repeated appeals to concerned station officer, we have not even got the post-mortum report".
Karan's uncle Chaman Lal said, "After getting the news of his missing, we rushed to Udhampur and it was only after four days that we got the body".
He claimed, "It is still a mystery for us, how he died. Despite our repeated complaints to CM Grievance Cell, the DGP is saying that FSL Report is still awaited. What can we do, even we have not got the belongings of our son. No police officer has so far visited our family to take our version".
Early Times is in possession of DGP's response to the complaint of Usha Sharma and in the reply, DGP has maintained that FSL report is still awaited.
"We only want to know about the truth behind our son's death and we are sure that our son was murdered and until the culprits are booked, we will not remain silent", Chaman Lal said.
When this Correspondent contacted him, Station Officer, Udhampur, Mahesh Sharma admitted that the FSL report of Karan was still awaited. He said that if any family member would visit Udhampur Police station, he would give them information about the complete investigation.
