Water scarcity only for masses, MLA gets regular water supplies | Locals allege some localities in Holy Town Katra snapped water supply since Sept 5 | | Shiv Thakur
Katra, Sept 19 : Within tall the claims of PHE Department Katra to manage water supply in all localities surrounding Katra, locals alleged that some localities such as Kotli Bajalan, Natali, Kundarorian , Dhanori etc yet are deprived of drinking water supply but what for PHE is worried is to water supply to residence of local MLA. As per irate locals even after the tall claims of PHE department supply water among all the localities in Katra, some localities outside the city area yet are deprived of any such Water supply from last 10 days. Some locals going beyond the point even mentioned that this is not new practice for them but whenever inflow of yatris increases in Katra, the concerned PHE Department stops the supply of the villages as well as areas outside the holy town. A villager on anonymity said that they supply water in plenty to the Hoteliers as these hotliers have much influence over the department for reasons better known to them. He said whenever the issue is raised to the concerned authorities the PHE officials only take refuge of the a conventional lame excuse the worn out water pipes often gets leaked owing to which water supply gets affected. “The department even has deployed some water tankers to supply water in different localities situated in outskirts of holy town but the black moles within the department allegedly use to these to supply water to reservoir/tanks of some influential while keeping water – the essential commodity out of reach of the needy and poor people who are forced to go to traditional water resources to fetch unsafe water for them. Meanwhile locals didn’t shy away to allege a water tanker specially is deployed to supply water to the residence of MLA Reasi constituency Baldev Raj Sharma, while neglecting the same service to people who are still waiting for the drinking water by any means. Assistant Executive Engineer PHE Varinder when contacted by Early Times admitted snapping of water supply in some localities and said, “The repair work is on to replace some 800 meters water pipes that were washed away in recent heavy rains, he however assured that the problem of these localities will be sort out soon.” He said,” We (PHE Deptt) are supplying the water in urban localities as there was an urgent need of supply owing population pressure of visiting pilgrims.” He added that we are also receiving police help as some people looted a water tanker by threatening the driver, a day before. |
