Omar 's claims fall flat, flood affected population still awaiting help CAPD distributing free ration among blue-eyed, charge flood affected | | | Saahil Suhail
Anantnag, Sept 20: After the passage over 13 days since devastating floods hit this southern district the government ironically has failed in reaching out to affected families, thus proving the tall claims of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah a hoax. Affected population in Danter area of Anantnag town ridiculed Chief Minister for his hoax claims that the state government is reaching out to the flood affected population and is helping them by providing the relief material including free of cost ration. They told Early Times that government not only failed in rescuing the people during floods from several areas of Anantnag district but now has failed too in providing any relief to them post floods. Residents alleged political discrimination is only helping to those having political affiliations with ruling parties "Administration here is selectively distributing ration and other essential commodities." alleged, Ghulam Mohmmad, a resident. He said that those areas which got affected by the floods have not received any help from the government. "What happens here is politically motivated, height of the injustice is that the residents of Sarnal area of Anantnag district got free of cost while as the affected areas of the district are still awaiting help from the government, "he added. Locals in Heaven Colony Ashajipora complained that the storekeepers of the CAPD department were dumping the ration meant for flood affected people. "Not only they are dumping the ration but are also charging us. They simply demand money besides are giving free ration to those also who have not been affected by the flood," Mohd Khaleel, a resident told Early Times. He said that on behest of National Conference leader, areas like Sarnal which were not affected by floods are receiving free ration while as the department has failed to provide any relief to the affected population in our areas and far flung areas of the district. A government official wishing anonymity revealed that government is lacking the mechanism for relief and rehabilitation. "Actually government doesn't any policy they are just announcing but on ground flood affected population is suffering." He said that CAPD department too doesn't have any list of affected families so they are distributing the ration randomly during which it is certain that the black sheeps in the department would be dumping the ration or distributing it among blue-eyed. Relief Commissioner, Asgar Samoon who is stationed in Anantnag district and is assessing the situation post devastating floods told media men that government is committed to provide relief to each affected family. He accepted that they haven't succeeded in reaching out to all the affected villages in Anantnag and Kulgam district and said, "Yes it is true that we have ferried the ration to all the flood affected areas due to road dis-connectivity as the flood has washed away many bridges." Pertinent to mention here that devastating floods have affected 63 villages and Anantnag town while as it has affected 52 villages of Kulgam district. It has also claimed over two dozen lives in both the districts of South Kashmir besides has left thousands of families homeless. |
