National Conference legislators of Srinagar 'vanish' in thin air after flood
Come in for sharp criticism from people

SRINAGAR, Sept 20: Residents of Srinagar, the summer capital of the state have been left at the mercy of the God as the state government has not done anything to mitigate sufferings of people who have been badly hit by the ravaging flood that took a heavy toll across the state.
Given the present scenario of water logging, scarcity of essentials of life, non-availability of drinking water and power it seems that government is missing on every front. This has led to disillusionment among the masses and they take pot-shots over the functioning of Omar Abdullah led coalition government.
City based legislators of National Conference have not bothered to visit the people of flood affected areas of the city even though two weeks have passed since rains stopped in Kashmir. There is a huge trust deficit with respect to the legislators and they seem to be scared of the people whom they claim to represent in the Assembly.
National Conference 'stalwarts' like Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mubarak Gul, Nasir Aslam Wani, Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, Shamima Firdous, Irfan Ahmad Shah, Mohammad Yaseen Shah and Peer Afaq Ahmad representing Khanyar, Eidgah, Amira Kadal, Hazratbal, Habba Kadal, Batmaloo, Sonwar and Zadibal constituencies respectively have virtually vanished from the scene.
"Representatives of people live with them through thick and thin, but this parameter does not apply to the legislators of Srinagar district. None of them appeared when people needed them most at the time of crisis following the recent devastating flood. They managed their escape during the flood and came back only when the situation was somewhat eased, but still then they are not to be seen," said Manzoor Ahmad, a resident of Nawab Bazar.
MLA Amira Kadal, Nasir Aslam Wani faced the wrath of the people when he objected to the placement of the dewatering pump near his residence in the Rajbagh locality. Nasir asked the concerned authorities to remove the pump since its functioning was leading to vibration in his house. He even threatened the concerned officials of dire consequences if they did not 'obey' the diktat.
When the locals of the area came to know about this they asked the concerned officials to carry on with their job saying that there is no need to worry about the house of the legislator. People said that when they needed the help of government the same was found missing and same was the case with the concerned legislator. Following strong resentment the MLA Amira Kadal had to leave the place and since then his whereabouts are not known.
The residents of the Srinagar city also alleged that the legislators used their influence and ensured that their relatives are rescued by the rescue teams from the flood affected areas. They said that no concern whatsoever was paid to the evacuation of the commoners and they were left to die.
"MLA Khanyar, Ali Mohammad Sagar somehow got in touch with the rescue teams and rescued his nearest relatives in the Rajbagh area. He like his other colleagues showed no courtesy and humanism so that the stranded people are shifted to safer places. These people need to be taught a lesson and I believe their under performance in the flood situation is a final nail in their coffin," said Abdul Hamid, a resident of Khanyar.
Pertinently the city legislators have come in for sharp criticism from majority of the people for their alleged failure in developing the Srinagar city to the expectations of the common masses. The legislators according to the people have failed on multiple fronts with no visible development on ground in the summer capital of the state.
