Infiltration bid foiled in Tangdhar, four ultras neutralized in fierce encounter | | | Syed Tahir Bukhari
Kupwara, Sept 20 : An infiltration bid was foiled by the Army and four militants were killed in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district near Line of Control (LoC) and four ultras have been killed here today by the security forces during the fierce encounter besides with recovery of warlike stores from the encounter spot “Four ultras were gunned down in an encounter with security forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara District in North Kashmir on Saturday Morning. According to official sources, "Four militants were killed on a specific intelligence-based operation in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district near Line of Control (LoC). “Heavily armed militants were surrounded by the soldiers near the (LoC) in Tangdhar sector during the intervening night of Sept 19 and Sept 20, police official said. Official maintained that following intelligence inputs, the army challenged the militants in Tangdhar sector Satu-rday morning," "The militants started firing at the soldiers triggering an encounter in which four militants were killed and their weapons were seized and all routes have been sealed so that the militants cannot escape," a senior police officer said. “Four AK- 47 rifles and war like ammunition were recovered from the scene of the gun battle that began in the wee hours, he said. However the identity and group affiliation of the militants were not being ascertained," the police official said. Meanwhile Defence spokesperson Northern Command Col S D Goswami said, “An infiltration bid was foiled by the Army and four militants were killed in an intelligence-based operation in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district near LoC. “Four AK 47 rifles, assorted ammunition and warlike stores were recovered from the scene of the gun battle that began in the wee hours today, Col Goswami added while adding, “the identity and group affiliation of the militants are being ascertained.” Meanwhile highly placed intelligence sources said, “Around 10-12 militants holed up in cordon are still firing at the soldiers and heavy exchange of fire is still on at encounter spot till last report came in. They told Early Times that there are many armed terrorist groups across the Line of Control who are waiting to infiltrate into the Kashmir Valley. "In spite of hectic involvement of Army in relief and rescue operations, the troops deployed on Line of Control have been high alert and vigilant," sources said. Many armed militants were waiting across the Line of Control (LoC) to infiltrate into the Indian side even as the security forces foiled several attempts by the ultras to sneak into valley following the recent floods. As matter of the fact is that Jammu and Kashmir has been hit by the worst-ever floods which have wreaked havoc in several districts and left 270 people dead. "Army had saved the people who were caught in the farthest points at the same time it guarded the borders vigilantly effectively and managed to foil the infiltration bids made by the armed ultras from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) across the Line of Control. Meanwhile search operation in the forest areas and at the site of operation was going on till the last reports came in, sources added. |
