People blame traffic authorities for frequent jams at Mendhar Bus Stand | | | M. S Nazki
MENDHAR , Sept 21 : Accusing the traffic regulatory authorities of failing to contain the menace of traffic congestion in the town, especially in and around the bus stand here, locals here today emphasised the immediate need for devising ways for smooth movement of vehicles. The locals complained of inconvenience due to traffic congestion in and around the bus stand here. “The flow of traffic at bus stand and in the main bazaar here is increasing with every passing day but the tehsil administration has so far failed in providing relief to the people”, said a senior citizen of Mendhar. He said that in the absence of any alternative route, the traffic chaos is adding to the miseries of masses. “Even worse is the role of police which have failed in properly managing the traffic, resulting in long jams. During peak hours, long queues of stranded vehicles can be seen in the town,” he added. Locals say that despite the increasing rush of cabs, including Tata Sumos and Tempo Travellers, authorities have failed to identify proper parking place for them. “Few cops deployed in the area are hardly able to manage the traffic and as a result large number of vehicles get parked haphazardly which results in long jams”, the locals said. They said that the business community is facing the burnt as the bus stand and main road are adjacent to each other. “Due to traffic congestion people and even pedestrians avoid coming here which in turn affects our business”, said a shopkeeper. Locals including Waqar Khan, Bastami Khayam and Iram Ferry lament that it is difficult to pass through the bus stand areas during day time because of unmanageable traffic. “Overloading is also going on unabated in the area which often results in accidents”, they said. Locals demanded that the authorities should devise a proper plan to manage traffic so that the people could freely move in the main bazaar area without any inconvenience. They also urged the administration to check overloading on a regular basis to save precious lives. |
