Ujjain, Sept 21 : Disaster Management Expert and psychiatrist Naresh Purohit today apprehended that an epidemic might break out in flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Purohit, who went to Jammu and Kashmir to assist the flood victims, said here that the Army rescued over 85,000 people while 80 per cent areas of Srinagar city were destroyed.
Dr Purohit, who accompanied the Army during the rescue operation, said the principal cause of spreading epidemic was unavailability of pure potable water.
He said there are chances of increase in diseases such as malaria, typhoid, hepatitis, cholera and diseases related to skin, ear, throat and nose after the flood.
He said many people are compelling to spend cold nights under the open sky as there was no shelter for them.
Dr Purohit said he provided mental support to the brave soldiers and the medical team during his stay in the flood-affected state
