Jammu, Sept21: National Secular Forum (NSF) today criticized state government for partial implementation of ban on polythene in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing media persons, National Secular Forum President Sukhdev Singh said that the decision of state government imposing ban on polythene was a good initiative but if there would be a blanket ban. “Products of many branded companies, chips, candies, gutka items, and many more are packed in polythene but same are not being banned in Jammu and Kashmir”, he rued, adding that astoundingly government has only banned polythene carry bags, which was only used by poor Rehriwalas. Singh further said that not only polythene carrying bags were harmful but the others polythene items, were equally harmful and reportedly have more age than polythene carry bags. “So if the state government is really serious to preserve the environment of Jammu and Kashmir, then it should impose blanket ban on all polythene products”, he said. He further alleged that state government was not in favour of harming the rich corporate houses, so has not interfere in the business in junk food items including Kurkure, Uncle Chips, soft drinks, even desi liquor. “Imposing ban on only polythene carry bags exposes the dual approach of government, which should be condemned tooth and nail”, he said. Each type of polythene didn’t allow the water to pass through them, as a result of which, the soil is not well aerated and deeply harming the fertility of land. National Secular Forum president Sukhdev Singh appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to make a policy to put blanket ban on polythene across state. Among those who were present in the press-conference included Ajaj Shah, Altaf Ahmed, Barket Tahir, Anees Charak, Zulfi Singh, Narinder Singh and Reshikesh Rana. |
