BANDIPORA, Sept 22 : A small hamlet known as Bangladesh Colony on the down hills of Baba Shukar-Ud-Din Sahib's Shrine in Watlab Sopore, encroached a small piece of land which belongs to the Flood department on the banks of famous Wular Lake in Bandipora district of North Kashmir.
Residents of this colony have grabbed the land for construction purpose which actually belongs to the Flood and Irrigation Department and these people claim that state government has not provided any relief to them in this hour of grief, when floods damaged whole Jammu and Kashmir state.
According to Abdul Ahad Dar, 83, of Zurmanz Colony of Bandipora District popularly known as Bangladesh colony spoke to early times that, "we are living here since 1971. In 1971 when Bangladesh was created we were settled here by the then Government."
The state government has not paid any attention nor flood and irrigation department took any action against these land grabbers so for ,these 157 households are living here on a high risk of floods and land sliding which can cause loss of human lives anytime.
Sonaullha Bhat said that, "nobody visited here except army who provided us tents, 5 kg of flour and district administration has only given us 5 kg of rice."
Meanwhile the residents of Bangladesh colony complained against the present government and expressed their anger and said, "at least on the humanitarian grounds state government should have provided us relief but no we were left here on the mercy of God.
Senior official from Deputy Commissioner's office Bandipora told early times that, the government has failed to implement the orders of removing encroachments which were issued seven years back in 2007. Official figures reveal that 39sqkm of the lake area is now under encroachment".
He further added and said, "The state government should not take these matters like illegal occupation and encroachment on the banks of these rivers as for granted because nobody is aware of natural disastrous which can happen any time in future and then the government will be responsible for all this.
