Govt Hospital Gandhi Nagar charges fee for OPD slips illegally | | | Arun Singh
Jammu, Sept 22 : Exploiting the helplessness of senior citizens of the state, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar is fleecing senior citizens who visit for consultation with specialist doctors, by charging OPD fee in disregard of the norms. Sources told Early Times there were four receipt counters for patients at OPD super specialty block in the basement of the complex which remained crowded all the working days. "Of four counters one is for female patients, one is for male patients and one for senior citizens but today at 11 am there was no employee available at the seat of senior citizens counter to issue them OPD slips which led to huge problems to the aged people", they said. The highhandedness of the employees present at the counters was visible today, when these senior citizens mostly women, on seeing the counter without employee, moved towards the counter for male patients and the employee present there started issuing them OPD slips and charged fee of Rs 5 each from the patients despite knowing the fact that there was exemption for aged people. Surprisingly, the computer generated slips were inscribed with the payment of Rs 0.0 i.e. no charges for senior citizens but the female employees present at the counters were deliberately charging fee, they revealed further adding that this illegal practice is being done since long and that too under the noose of authority concern. "I am suffering from severe joint pain and have come to get myself exmined from the Orthopedician but there is no one at the counter to issue OPD slips, it is becoming unbearable for me to stand in the queue," narrated an aged female patient of 65 years old preferring anonymity. After getting slip, when she was asked that had she paid for the slips, she replied affirmatively. When asked whether she knew that senior citizens are exempted, she admitted ignorance. When contacted, the Medical Superintend, Dr Mohammad Younis Choun-dary admitted that senior citizens were exempted from OPD fee. "I am hearing this from you about this malpractice. I will visit the counters tomorrow to enquire about it," he said |
