Jannat is to be saved, vows Shivani Cultural Society | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 22: Putting in their contribution to reach to the distressed masses of Jammu and Kashmir who have suffered due to flashfloods, Shivani Cultural Society, the premier cultural organization of the state presented a play on the plight of sufferers of the state and the army’s yeoman task to sail the trapped out of the deluge. Entitled ‘The Jihad—Jannat Speaks’- the 40 minutes presentation revolved around a trapped lonely Kashmiri Muslim lady of 70 years whose house is submerged in the water and is awaiting death on the last upper floor of her house. How she recalls the actual and spiritual love of Jihad having turned into hatred and abhorrence among the people of Valley who have undertaken the wrong path of self-styled attainment and lost their identity as well as love towards nation. Retrieving down her memory lanes, while water currents upsurge, Jannat Bibi, narrates the events of her life since childhood to old age and how her sons and daughter get lost into the dark oblivions while embracing wrongful methods. In the meanwhile she refuses aid from the people roaming in boats around to take her to safety while terming the deluge as the final ways of wrongful jihad. It’s only when army comes to know about her whereabouts that messages are flashed to save the lady as a column of army reaches the spot and asks her to lend them her hand for evacuation which she refuses to relent. The commandant who leads the rescue team tells her emotionally that he is her son Ashfaq who has come to save the Jannat that she opens her arms to them and climbs down. Neha Lahotra the protagonist of The Jihad gave a scintillating performance of a distressed woman who journeys in her life from childhood to old age taking along the various contours of Jihad, separatism and Azaadi echoing in valley. Rafeeq Ahmed as Akram/commandant Raghubir Yadav, Ashish Zadoo as Salim/sergeant Sanjay Kumar, Yogeshwar as Junaid/sergeant Gurvinder Singh, Zafar Bhat as Rehan/Sergeant Lawrence D’ Souza acted superbly. The play was authored and directed by Vikram Sharma who has earlier also taken up challenging issues like Damini and Sarbjeet in his earlier endeavors BJP young and dynamic leader Aditi Sharma, the chief guest on the occasion while praising the effort of Shivani Cultural Society said that play has the potential to send a strong message pan-India about Jammu and Kashmir’s strong integrity with the country and emphasized that such acts are required frequently through theatrical endeavors to aware the masses about the exemplary role of our army in united India. |
