Kathua, Sept 23: On the directions of the District Development Commissioner Kathua Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, a team of Legal Metrology Department officers carry out surprise checking in different parts of the district during the current month and imposes penalty of rupees 10,200 from the erring shopkeepers. As per the handout of Legal Metrology Department Kathua, Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua Ajay Kumar Verma and team comprising of the Inspector Vicky Sharma Legal Metrology Kathua and Devi Lakhanpuria Dayala Chack conducted intensive checking of different business premises. The team especially checked Provisional stores, Karayana stores, Mini Flour mills, Ration Depot, Sweetshops, Utensil Shops, Goldsmiths' shop, Vegetables/Fruit sellers, Procurement dealers, Scrap dealers, Iron Traders, Wine Shops and Manufacturers/Packers which include Sweet Shops, Karayana Shops, Vegetable Sellers, Fruit Sellers, Utensil Shops, Steel Works, Goldsmith, Flour Industries, Provisional Stores, Bars and Restaurants at Kathua, Nagri, Channgran, Nihalpur, Palli Morh, Maesha Chack, Pathwal, Gailwand, Persu Chak, Phinter and adjoining areas. During Inspection, 20 traders were booked for violation of various provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 1997 and Package Commodities Rules. Following which, a penalty of Rupees 29,000 imposed on the erring traders during the current month. Besides this, Department directed all the traders to use only verified Weights and Measures for Business transactions and display maximum retail price, date of packaging, net contents and complete address along with consumer care number on the commodities to be sold in package Form. The Department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from using unfair trade practices to cheat the innocent Consumers and appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities. |
