| Contractual heads MBA deptt; inexperienced post-graduates teach PG students | | Tragic tale of Central University (CU) Jammu-III | | Syed Junaid Hasmi
JAMMU, Sept 23: Department of Business Administration in Central University (CU) Jammu is being run by a contractual head of department with inexperienced post-graduates working on permanent basis and teaching post-graduate students.
Those who have been keeping close eye on the functioning of Central University (CU) do not hesitate in saying that ex-Vice-Chancellor Sudhir Singh Baloeria's integrity and honesty gets reflected from the fact that the selection committees which met and appointed faculty members have seemingly gone overboard to ensure selection of blue-eyed post-graduates. These include ex-OSD and now consultant, Dr. P.S. Pathania's daughter Anjali Pathania, who had been appointed as Assistant Professor.
Prof. Ashok Aima who is head of the department of MBA (HRM & OB) is working on contractual basis yet has been made the incharge. Dr. Jaya Bhasin, who is wife of OSD, Colleges Development Council (CDC) of Jammu University has been appointed as Associate Professor. She was working as Senior Assistant Professor, in the Business School of University of Jammu. She had requisite qualification to be appointed in the Central University of Jammu but then, none needs to mention even a word about ex-Special Secretary to Vice-Chancellor Neeraj Sharma.
The number 3 in the faculty of MBA (HR&M) is Dr. Neelika Arora who has been appointed as Assistant Professor. Sources in the Central University told Early Times that Arora is a relative of Prof. Deepak Raj Gupta, a man who is heading the TTM department of the Central University. Neelika has a publication titled "The relationship between perceived travel risk, travel safety, travel anxiety and intentions to travel: A path analysis study of domestic traveler in India" with Prof. Deepak Raj Gupta.
This was brought out by International Journal of Tourism and Travel in its third volume in January 2010, pp. 25 - 35. Assistant Professor Gowhar Rasool Bhat is an MBA in Human Resource/Marketing from Lovely Professional University (LPU). He worked as trainee in the University of North Carolina at Charlette and later, as team leader in Tech Mahindra. Hence, Gowhar Rasool Bhat virtually has no teaching experience in a University. He was, according to sources given preference over several others having rich academic qualification as well as teaching experience.
This again is better known to the ex-VC and his coterie why they chose to drop those who were qualified, had teaching experience and could have contributed extensively in improving academic atmosphere in this newly created university. Gowhar had also been shortlisted for appointment as Assistant Professor in Islamic University for Science and Technology (IUST) besides having been called for Interview for the post of Associate Professor Tourism Studies by Central University (CU) Kashmir.
Gowhar is from Srinagar and if the records are to be revisited, entire Jammu was up in arms against appointment of Kashmiri Pandit as first VC of Central University (CU) Jammu but when the same became functional, intellectuals accept that Jammu has been left wanting when it comes to appointments in the University despite being run by Jammu based Babus and academicians. Non-locals have been preferred over local eligible and experienced candidates, say the Jammu academicians.
Curious is the case of Anjali Pathania, who is a simple MBA but has been appointed as Assistant Professor merely on the grounds that she qualified National Eligibility Test (NET). She is 2011 MBA pass out from Jammu University. Much has been in public domain about how she was appointed in the Central University (CU) but what needs to be mentioned here that the then OSD and now Consultant, P.S. Pathania did not care even a wink about meritorious Youth of Jammu when the issue pertained to the appointment of his daughter but the same is now heard boosting of having served interest of this region in the Central University (CU) Jammu.
Observers do want him to rebut allegation of his daughter having been preferred for the job of Assistant Professor over several other NET, JRF, PhD and M.Phil qualified candidates who had relatively higher teaching experience. But the ex-OSD has been communicating to all the corners that he is being victimized by media unnecessarily and that all allegations against him are false and frivolous. Those around him told Early Times that Pathania has been telling people that his daughter was engaged by a team of experts and not him.
"Do our children who are bright and capable have no right to recruitment? They are meritorious and have got jobs only after interview boards cleared them. This non-sense is just to prevent me from doing good work," is what Pathania, according to sources is communicating to his friends especially Ashok Thakur, the Secretary in the HRD Ministry. Alongwith Pathania is Asif Ali, another Associate Professor and MBA from Kashmir University (KU). He is also 2010 pass out.
Prior to joining Central University (CU) as Assistant Professor, he was working as Manager in the Central Bank of India (CBI). Hence, Asif too relatively has no experience of teaching and that too at the post-graduate level. Alongwith Asif is another Assistant Professor Dr. Shahid Mushtaq. He is working on contractual basis. An MBA from Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) with 67 percent marks, Dr. Shahid is working on contractual basis with no chance of being appointed on a permanent post. |
