Powerful DD anchor gets only symbolic action for preaching secessionism | Impact of BJP leader's influence: | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 23: Following intense pressure from nationalist forces across the country, the Doordarshan (DD) authorities has taken a symbolic action against influential DD anchor that had deliberately toed anti-India line while reporting flood in Srinagar. Credible sources said that nationalist organisations all over the country expressed their anger against that DD anchor, who while covering flood situation at Srinagar, had deliberately and repeatedly called "Anantnag" as "Islamabad" and "Shankacharya Parbhat" as "Takhtay Suleman or Koh-e-Suleman". Credible sources in the corridors of power said that nationalist forces were demanding a strong action against DD anchor but it was all due to pressure from a Jammu based BJP leader that only a symbolic action was taken against that influential anchor for preaching secessionism. Sources said that this BJP leader has used all its influence to protect the anchor and it was all due to his influence that the anchor got only symbolic punishment and she was rather given important assignment. Sources said it was that BJP leader, who had made all arrangements for that anchor at Srinagar so he thought that it was his responsibility to protect her from the wrath of nationalist forces. It was result of the influence of that BJP leader that instead of taking any strict action the anchor was pulled off from air and given other important assignment where she could protect interests of that BJP leader. Sources said it was only after angry reactions started pouring in on social media that Doordarshan swung into action and replaced the anchor-reporter. Reports in some section of media said that Doordarshan was embroiled in a major controversy after one of its anchors recently referred to places in Kashmir by names used by separatists, calling "Anantnag'' as "Islamabad'' and "Shankracharya Hill'' as "Koh-e-Suleman'' in reports on the J&K deluge. The repeated reference in the reportage spanning over at least two days went on air despite the fact that the coverage was not live. Sources said it was only after angry reactions started pouring in on social media that Doordarshan swung into action and replaced the anchor-reporter. The DD anchor, a regular newsreader, has been given "off-camera" assignments following the fracas. |
