Asia's largest Botanical garden likely to become history | Bhour Camp Floriculture garden Suffers extensive losses | | GS Asgotra
Jammu, Sept 23 : Asia's largest botanical garden Bhour Camp Floriculture garden, which was supposed to developed by the government on the pattern of Tulip Garden of Srinagar, might become history as recent floods caused losses to the tune of Rs 40 laklhs. Sources informed Early Times that facing financial crunch, the department of Floriculture has already bifurcated the garden, as the funds announced by government during the inauguration of park to the tune of Rs. 33 Crores, has not been received till date , thereby delaying infrastructure building over Balole Nullah. "Due to dearth of funds, the department has not developed the bund due to which once again this year the flash flood water entered into the park and destroys various infrastructure", sources said. Assistance Floriculture Officer (AFO), Ishtak Ahmed Malik informed that the department has assessed the losses to the tune of Rs. 40 lakhs as department has lost nearly 10 motors, one generator set, transformer while all the electronic gadgets have been destroyed in the flash floods. He further said that during last year also flash floods had damaged all refrigerators, kept in the garden, which were not repaired yet. "Flash floods have also damaged all the machinery besides sapling of flowers, sown by department for winter season", he said. Sources in the department maintained that when the garden was inaugurated by former Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad, he had announced to develop the garden on pattern of Tulip Garden, but the dream of Gulam Nabi Azad has totally been shattered and there was no effort afoot to develop the park. An official of department pleading anonymity said if government continued to ignore the park, it may becoem history. Pertinently, the government had announced to develop the Bhor Camp garden as Asia's largest Botanical garden, on the pattern of Srinagar Tulip garden, and had announced for sanctioning of Rs 33 Crores but even after lapse of many years, not even the embankments have been built by department. |
