Jammu , Sept 29: Well into the fourth week since devastating floods hit several parts of the state, State government and its administrative machinery is still far from reaching many in distress.
Though relief and rehabilitation material and funds have reached the government in plenty from across the country and even abroad, the indifferent and uncoordinated efforts of the government agencies is impeding the process of distribution.
The victims are anguished with the way state administration is working and have several times turned hostile. Talking to Early Times in Srinagar, Shabbir Ahmed, retired senior police officer said that there is total chaos and confusion and the administration and the urgency and pragmatism required to address such a tragedy is missing.
"This government has failed on all fronts and after 25 days of devastation, the government is still not able to reach affected people. Water is still logged in many areas and process of dewatering is going on at slow pace" he said adding, " The administration seems to be sleeping and the chief minister is not able to handle the situation".
Vicky shah, a local entrepreneur who has recently launched an NGO Insaniyat said that he had lost everything in floods and his residence in Shivpora was completely devastated. "But as a human, when I see no government visible on ground, me and my friends which included doctors, engineers, lawyers, pooled whatever we had to ensure than we reached affected people with whatever little relief we could manage".
Maqbool Ahmed, who lives in Srinagar said that this is for the first time, he is witnessing such a cold response from government and added that this government has no moral authority to rule. The Srinagar city is still in very bad shape and the way government is working, it seems that it will take years to get it back on track.
