Dhanore residents protest over acute shortage of water, block BGSBU road | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Sept 29: Agitated over the acute scarcity of drinking water, residents of Dhanore today held a strong protest over shortage of potable water and also disrupted the normal traffic on Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) road for over some time. Locals from Dhonore under the jurisdiction of Rajouri municipality held a protest alleging that the village has been facing acute shortage of drinking water for the last many months but despite several representations the PHE officials have failed to mitigate their problems. Agitated inhabitants of the Dhanore and its adjoining helmets assembled on Rajouri-BGSB University road and created blockades and disrupted traffic while raising slogans against the district administration and PHE officials. Mohd Farooq and many others alleged that even during the rainy season the authorities have failed to provide safe drinking water to the people of the area who were forced to fetch water from traditional water resources. "PHE's schemes are lying defunct for the last many months due to bad planning by the concerned officials and for the last many months department has been providing drinking water through tankers, they alleged and added, "none is bothered bother to check and reschedule the defunct water supply scheme." They added that even to get water from PHE tankers , that is supplying water after two days, women and children are forced to wait for the tankers for hours to gather on the road in scorching sun shine. On getting information Yash Pal Singh, SHO concerned police station rushed to the spot and pacified the people that the matter will be taken up with the senior officers of PHE. It was assurances from the official the locals lifted their protest and traffic was restored on this stretch. |
