Kishtwar , Sept 29 : Despite directions from Supreme Court of India to put a check on corporal punishment in schools, it seems it still rules the roosts in Kishtwar School and in a protest the students studying in High School Cherhar Kishtwar along with their parents today held a massive protest against the case of alleged 'corporal punishment' to these students by none else but the Headmaster of the school himself and over two dozen students reportedly received injuries.
As per the details available with "Early Times" over hundred students and parents of the High School Cherhar situated on the outskirts of Kishtwar town today held a strong protest and block.
Kishtwar-Chatroo-Sinthan-Srinagar National Highway for nearly two hours demanding action against Headmaster of school Ghulam Mohudin Butt allegedly gave strong bashing and punished students severely. The agitating people demanded immediate arrest of the erring teacher who seems to be blot on teaching community. As soon as the news of the protest spread, police personals from police post Kuleed and officials of the District administration rushed to the spot to pacify the agitating students and their parents.
Later the agitating students and their parents approached the office of the Chief Education Officer Kishtwar and demanded immediate action against the Headmaster of the school, beside his immediate transfer from the school.
While talking to "Early times", one the students on promised anonymity told that the gruesome incident took place on Saturday when the haeadmaster of the school went on beating spree without any fault of the student and beat them mercilessly. Narrating the horrifying incident, students said that the staff members of the school forced the poor students of the 10th class to arrange a farewell party for them as they were leaving the school this year. They added following the pressure from the school staff the students arrange the farewell party for the school and once the party ended on Saturday, a female teacher of the school asked the students to go home at around 4 PM.
As soon as the students were about to leave the school premises, the accused headmaster appeared on the scene and instructed them to clean the class room and school premises (of the party mess). Students alleged while they were cleaning the school premises, the headmaster for no reasons turned violent and without spearing anyone started beating the students with a stick, a scale or a rod resulting injuries to some students forcing many to jump over boundary wall to save from brutality of teacher. Students added atleast two dozen students received injuries in this mass punishment incident. They said that the girl's students were so traumatized with the action of the headmaster and many were seen crying. The spitefulness of this teacher didn't stop here and going a step further he issued a warning to the students that he will issue bad character certificates against their names.
Meantime taking strong notice of this mass punishment, the parents of the victim students also demanded stern action and immediate arrest of the headmaster of the school. They said if there was some complains about their wards, the headmaster should have informed them instead of taking such harsh step.
Meanwhile the sources in the education department said that the department has submitted a detail report to Director School Education Jammu regarding this incident and sought action against the headmaster of the school in accordance to the law.
