Ultra killed in Kupwara gun fight

KUPWARA, Sept 30: An unidentified ultra was gunned down by security forces when suspected militants fired on a patrol party of the Army in Warnav village of Lolab area in Kupwara District of north Kashmir on Tuesday morning.
According to police, "acting on a specific input about the presence of a group of militants in a village of Lolab area of the district, police's Special Operation Group (SOG) and Indian army's 18 Rashtriya Rifles laid a siege and asked them to surrender.
Militants opened fire upon army's patrolling party of 18 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Warnav village of Lolab forest in Kupwara district, official maintained.
The group of militants hiding in the forest area near Afan village opened indiscriminate fire on security forces, he said.
In the initial exchange of fire a militant was killed. He however said that the group may have crossed to this side of Kashmir recently.
The official said four to five militants are believed to be still hiding in the forest.
However an extra contingent of forces had been called on to the area to combat the militants hiding in the area Army has cordoned off the whole forest area in Lolab area.
"it is pertinent to mention here that from last couple of months the encounter has not came to an end near the Line of Control in frontier district of Kupwara, in which almost 9 militants were killed so for" sources said. While filing this story search operation by the Army was going on.
Meanwhile in an another incident Special Operation Group of Handwara tehsil along with 47RR busted a militant hideout and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from Kralsangar Forest of Kupwara district.
According to senior police official that, on a specific intelligence SOG and 47 Rashtriya Rifles cordoned the Kralsangri forest of Kupwara district.
"Security forces started search operation of an area in which a large cache of war like stores which included 2 Russian Made Rocket Launchers, 3 AK Magazines, 2 Chinese Pistol, 3 Pistol Magazines, 17 AK-47 Round and Radio Antenna were recovered. This is the big achievement of security forces against militants this year, official said.
