Army wanted to kill Kashmiri Muslims by poisoning | Out-on-the-limb Mirwaiz | | Rustam JAMMU, Oct 1: One would really appreciate the flood-hit Kashmiri Muslims if they say - in fact, they are saying - that the entire Government collapsed and went dysfunctional in flood-ravaged Kashmir when the people needed it most. They would also be right when they would say that Ministers, bureaucrats, police, corrupt Flood Control Department, State Disaster Response force and other agencies of the State Government left the stranded people in the lurch or to die in the flood waters. After all, it is a fact that many Ministers, bureaucrats and police official of all ranks either fled way to safer places or cared for their own self and their families. But it is disgusting when Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who remained invisible for almost 15 days or remained in his safe and secure palace, vouches for those who accuse the Government of India of hatching a conspiracy against the stranded Kashmiri Muslims so that the community was annihilated. Appreciate those Kashmiri youth who also risked their lives to rescue the stranded people. They needed to be appreciated. But it is improper to charge the Indian media with playing dubious games by not highlighting the role of the Kashmiri youth and accuse New Delhi of killing Kashmiri Muslims by poisoning and discriminating between Kashmiri Muslims and others during the rescue and relief operations. It is clear that the likes of Mirwaiz who did nothing whatsoever during the floods are using the role of some Kashmiri youth during and after the floods ravaged some parts of Valley, especially Srinagar, barring Down Town and a few other areas, as a weapon to undermine the role of the Indian Army and other agencies of the Government of India as well as the nation as whole and restore the sectarian space they lost during all these days by unleashing a vilification campaign against those who did all that they could to rescue thousands and thousands of Kashmiri Muslims. "It was all about media highlighting the Indian Army rescuing only particular group of people. At times, they (Government) dropped food packages which were expired. That got people more angry and that's how different voices raise. Some said they want to kill us by poisoning. Then the way they went about the rescue operation…They gave preference to tourists. At times people complained that they picked up others and left out locals (read Muslims). This also caused a lot of anger among people. They felt discriminated. But I am sure the NDRF also worked but what irked people was the way Indian agencies were praised even before they had started the rescue operation…We have to look at it with a completely apolitical manner. It is a humanitarian issue. So, even if the Indian Air Force choppers dropped food, people assembled and burned it. Their relief material was not accepted on the ground," he shamelessly said in an interview. No one would believe what Mirwaiz said and others of his ilk had been saying after resurfacing from their safe hideouts. But the main problem is that sections of biased media have also jumped on to the separatists' bandwagon. It was their duty as responsible media to highlight the truth and tell the flood affected people who did what in the time of crisis and who remained completely indifferent to the woes of those whom they call their constituency. By siding with separatists like Mirwaiz, Geelani, Malik and so on, they are not doing justice either to their noble profession or to the people whose cause they are taking up. They should remember their vilification campaign against the Government of India would damage Kashmir itself and create more hatred between the regions. They would do well to expose the hypocrisy of Mirwaiz and similar other self-styled freedom fighters, as they have already cause enough of damage to the common Kashmiri Muslims. |
