Patwaris caught with fake relief cases, placed under suspension | Destructive floods fail to move corrupt! | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 1: In J&K, corrupt dance naked even in adversity! This stands true for Revenue officials of Jammu and Kashmir who have begun manipulating records, preparing fake loss assessment papers and recommending fake relief cases. Sources said that Revenue officials in league with certain little known leaders and village Sarpanches have begun preparing false and fabricated flood relief cases. They added that Peanuts are being recommended for those who have lost houses as well as livestock in the areas where floods have caused devastation while huge amounts are being recommended for those greasing palms of Revenue officials. In a case involving two Patwaris indulging in preparing of fake relief cases for the recent floods, sources said that Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jammu South (Gangyal) Shahid Mehmood suspended both the Patwaris. The two Patwaris included Shabir Hussain of Chak Lala Patwar Halqa in tehsil Bishnah and Kewal Kumar of Narwal Bala Patwar Halqa in Tehsil Bahu. Sources said that both had been allegedly preparing false and frivolous relief cases of flash floods victims. They added that the two Patwaris were in league with certain other unscrupulous elements preparing fake and frivolous relief cases. Vide order no. 2-SDM/JMU-S of 2014 dated 29-09-2014; SDM has ordered suspension of both the Patwaris and directed Tehsildars of both the tehsils to conduct a detailed enquiry and furnish report alongwith all necessary documents to substantiate charges to be framed against the two Patwaris, accused of allegedly being delinquent and corrupt. Sources said that despite being warned several times verbally by the Tehsildars and the SDM of Jammu-South, the two Patwaris did not bother and kept preparing false and frivolous cases. They added that non-compliance of repeated orders to desist from wrong-doings resulted in SDM-Jammu (South) alongwith team of officials going on an on-spot inspection to find out the truth. On-spot inspection, according to sources revealed that the two Patwaris had been preparing false and frivolous relief cases. Following this, the two were immediately placed under suspension. On being asked, SDM-Jammu (South) Shahid Mehmood said "We have been strictly told not to tolerate anyone indulging in wrong-doings with regard to compensation and preparation of relief cases. State Government is in no mood to allow corrupt and inefficient people to loot in the name of relief." He further said that a close eye is being kept on working of all the Patwaris involved in loss assessment and relief distribution. "We had been receiving frequent complaints against these two Patwaris. We went for on-spot inspection and found the complaints true to a large extent. Hence, both have been suspended," added Shahid while promising that more action would follow in days to come against delinquent officials. Meanwhile, insiders told Early Times that relief distribution has been completely politicised with Ministers, MLAs and MLCs of Congress and NC forcing the administration to distribute relief according to their whims and fancies. "We are facing problems from politicians. If they do not interfere, no flood-hit person would be left out. Relief would reach every needy. But political interference has made life difficult for us. We have to accept orders from the top," said a Revenue official. |
