BARAMULLA, Oct 16: Panic gripped in Chakloo area of Rafiabad in Baramulla district of North Kashmir today when militants reportedly targeted an army convoy of Gharwal Regiment by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) triggered with a remote control resulting injuries to atleast three Army jawans.
According to official sources the militants detonated the IED (Improvised Explosive Device) in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district at around 11.45am when an army convoy was passing through the area.
A senior police official on promised anonymity told 'Early Times' that militants detonated the IED (Improvised Explosive Device) in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district in which at least three Indian army troopers were injured.
Official said that as usual army convoy was passing through the area, which was on its way from Baramulla to Kupwara and suddenly IED went off near Chakloo- Nadihal in Rafiabad area in the forenoon hours on Thursday.
"Three soldiers injured later have been identified as telephone operator Deepak Singh (Belt no 4093582), Constable Nirander (Belt No 4087660) while identification of the third injured yet has not been established, however he is said to be critical," official maintained. "The injured troopers have been shifted to army's base hospital in Srinagar. The blast targeted an Army anti-sabotage vehicle, and a gypsy," official sources said.
Meanwhile the sources said, "Militants as per dictates of their mentors want to disrupt the election process in Jammu and Kashmir, but brave and alert security forces with a resolve to to meet any challenges in future have foiled many such bids from the insurgents forcing them to go on a back step."
Pertinent to mention here that this is second incident of same nature in fortnight earlier ultras have targeted security forces and have killed an army trooper after they fired on a patrol party Kupwara district last week.
Soon after the terror attack the security forces cordoned off the whole area to nab the militants and extensive search operations was going on however, no one was arrested till the reports last came in.
It is pertinent to mention here that on October 11, General Officer Commanding (GoC) of Army's 15 Corps Lt General Subrata Saha had told reporters on the sidelines of blood donation camp in Baramulla district of North Kashmir, from the security point of view, we are ready to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for the conduct of the elections in Kashmir,
However he had added and said that there was no significant increase in the infiltration from across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Valley during the period of floods last month. Meanwhile in today's attack on Army convoy in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
