PDP's right advice to separatists | Forget K issue | | Rustam JAMMU, Oct 16: The main opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday did well to question the separatists' activities aimed at keeping the Kashmir pot boiling in this time of tragedy caused by the flood fury and advise it to become responsible recognizing the fact that the extraordinary situation caused by the September floods required extraordinary efforts to rebuild the devastated area, including parts of Srinagar city and Jammu province. It was the former Deputy Chief Minister MP Muzaffar Husain Beig who took the initiative to tell the separatists that it was not time to rake up (the so-called) Kashmir issue but to extend their helping hand so that the hardships of the affected people were mitigated to the extent possible. "It is high time that all the leaders from the mainstream and pro-freedom groups should bury their differences and join hands to help people in these hard times. All of us should find ways and means to rehabilitate flood hit people. I appeal Hurriyat leaders to focus on rehabilitation work for sometime and forget the Kashmir issue. They (separatists) can play a role in rebuilding Kashmir," he was quoted as saying. Don't go by the sophisticated words like appeal the PDP MP used. His message was loud and clear: his message was that the conduct of the separatists in this time of crisis was questionable and that they were only exhibiting their indifference towards the miseries of the affected people by raking up an issue that was there since 1947. Beig in a way told the separatists that they should not waste their time and energy by raking up emotive issues and that they should, instead, involve themselves in the ongoing humanitarian work/relief and rehabilitation work. However, it is difficult to say that the desperate, frustrated and defeated separatists would pay any heed to the sane counsel of Beig. After all, they are not there in the Valley to perform some noble job; they are there in Kashmir to promote the Pakistani cause as well as their own personal interests at the cost of the common Kashmiri Muslims. Those who did nothing when the flood waters inundated and submerged parts of the Valley and lived in their safe hideouts those days cannot be expected to render any service to humanity. They survived and thrived on the blood and sweat of Kashmiri Muslims and worked as Pakistani agents in the past and it is extremely unlikely that they would deviate even slightly from the path that they had been treading since decades. This is not to suggest that persons like Beig should not advise these ruffians and anti-social and anti-national elements; they must go on exposing them in the manner Beig on Wednesday did in a sophisticated manner. |
