Did bureaucrats mislead Flood Control Minister? | | | Sandeep Bhat Jammu, Oct 16 : The recent flash floods across the state and in valley in particular has devastated life and property. The government's unpreparedness to manage the floods added insult to peoples' injury. The devastation caused by the floods is being debated and the Government is blamed for what happened. In a recent statement, Flood Control Minister Sham Lal Sharma said that bureaucrats informed him that floods will never occur in Srinagar city. Was he misled by the bureaucrats? "Some bureaucrats called me urging not to panic the locals as floods would never occur in Srinagar, instead Sharma told them that the situation is indeed alarming as the waters have crossed the danger mark in river," he said. He also said that Kandzal breach would not have saved Srinagar. "The inordinate delay to breach the traditional kandzal embankment of Jehlum submerged Srinagar is untrue," he said. Talking to early times, Manoj Kumar, said that those who have misled the flood control minister should be identified and brought to book. Though many lives were saved by the army, Air Force and NDRF, but the government was unable to rise to the occasion The minister should not give ear to those bureaucrats who don't have credible information. |
