KPs deserve rehabilitation with 'dignity and grace': Dr Jitendra
10/19/2014 10:57:56 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 19: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today said that safe return of displaced Kashmiri Pandit (KP) community was high on the government agenda but we must not forget that KPs deserve rehabilitation with "dignity and grace".
Dr Jitendra Singh was speaking to a delegation of displaced Kashmiri Pandit community led by Panun Kashmir President, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, Kashmiri Samiti Delhi President, Vijay Raina and other senior leaders including Virender Raina, Kamal Bhagati, Ajay Kumar and Sunil Kumar who called on him here this morning. On the occasion, Dr. Jitendra Singh also released a book of ''Bhakti poetry'' written by Prabha Raina, an author from the displaced KP community. Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is a unique example in the history of mankind that for almost a quarter century, an entire ethnic community is living in a state of internal displacement, thus comprising the world's largest ever group of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP). Any plan envisaged for the resettlement of displaced Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley, Dr Jitendra Singh said, will have to be based on their contemporary requirements, state of mind and above all, a sense of security unintimidated by possible terrorist threats.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that the return of KPs to the Valley is not only essential from the point of view of the displaced community, but it is also in the interest of the majority community living in the Valley because the inherent cultural character of Kashmir Valley is incomplete without the presence of Kashmiri Pandits whose rich tradition and customs always enriched the Kashmir heritage. Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo presented a memorandum spelling out various demands and apprehensions of displaced KP community and said that the KP community has always held aloft the flag of nationalism and patriotism, and shall continue to do so in future as well.
He also expressed concern over the appearance of ISIS flags in Kashmir Valley and demanded serious action. "KP community has always believed in living in harmony with all sections of society and shall fully cooperate with the Narendra Modi government in its effort to restore the lost prestige and glory of Jammu and Kashmir", said Chrungoo. He also appealed for implementation of the recommendations made by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs regarding the welfare of displaced KP community.
