Automobile, real estate, insurance companies put their stalls at CME workshop | Violation of SMC guidelines | | Arun Singh
Jammu, Oct 19: Making a mockery of the guidelines of State Medical Council (SMC) at Government Medical College, Jammu, during a Continuing Medical Education (CME) workshop, organised to devise ways for improving the quality of medicare services, several automobile, real estate and insurance companies had put their stalls, virtually commercialising the event. A two-day CME workshop and 9th Annual Conference of North States Chapter of Anatomical Society of India (NSCASI) on Total Knee Replacement and Demonstration of Anterolateral approach to HIP was held in Seminar Hall of GMC where several private companies had put their stall for attracting doctors and guests in sheer violation of SME guidelines which prohibit presence of private companies during such events, according to sources. Such events provide the medical fraternity an opportunity to update knowledge and find solution to medical problems through exchange and sharing of scientific ideas but the event was totally commercialised by private companies which have no connection which medical field. All this happened under the nose of GMC administration. "As per government order No 562 HME of 2013 dated 18/10/13 which reads that any conference or CME sponsored by any private company will not be validated or endorsed by State Medical Council," sources said, alleging that space for stalls was provided by the GMC administration to the private companies including HDFC, Mahindra and Villas in violation of the SMC guidelines. "Moreover despite getting permission from SMC for organizing CME by the concerned department (Anatomy) no official of State Medical Council was present at the event to ensure the compliance of the rules of SMC in the programme," they alleged. |
