Jammu, Oct 20: They have decided to sit on a chain hunger strike at the office of the Director, School Education.
Hari Singh, provincial president Jammu and Kashmir United Teachers Association, has appealed teachers working in Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi and Kishtwar to participate in strike.
Criticising the authorities in the education department, he said, "The salaries of teachers working under the SSA and the RMSA are pending for past 3 to 12 months. Despite repeated assurances, no salary has been paid to teachers."
"Also there is no transfer policy and teachers are transferred randomly. The teachers with influence get transferred in six months while others have to serve for more than three years in the far-flung areas," he alleged.
He alleged that pick and choose transfer policy of the government has led shortage of teachers in the rural areas. He demanded that a probe should be ordered of the transfers of teachers in last one year.
Hari Singh also demanded removing pay anomalies. More than 20,000 teachers are working in both these central flagship educational progrmamnes in the Jammu region.
Speaking on the future plan, Singh said, "After Wednesday's strike, we will give around a fortnight to authorities to concede to our demands falling which we will start indefinite chain hunger strike. |
