HC directs probe to submit report within 3 weeks
Basmati growing land case

JAMMU, Oct 20 : High Court has directed committee constituted by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu to submit probe report into alleged conversion of land meant for growing Basmati rice into residential colonies within three weeks time. This order has been issued by Division Bench of High Court comprising of Justice Virender Singh and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a practicing Advocate Ranjeet Singh Chib. He had shown concern for alleged illegal conversion of world famous Basmati Rice land into residential colonies in R.S.Pura Sub-Division. As per PIL, petitioner submitted that thousands of Kanals of land have been converted into banquet halls, residential colonies and business complex during the last five years without obtaining permission from the Revenue department as required under J&K Land Revenue Act.
