Jammu, Oct 20: An extension lecture on the topic "Developing Leadership Among Women: A Gender Perspective", was organized by SSGCWS for the staff members of all the wings of Model Institute of Education Research (MIER). According to press release, Dr Renu Gupta,Director MIER was the resource person for the program. At the beginning of the programme Wall Magazine which is a regular feature of the Centre was inaugurated by Dr. Renu Gupta on the Topic "Women and Leadership". Dr Annie Koul formally welcomed Dr. Renu Gupta and said that she is an appropriate choice for discussion on the said topic as Dr. Renu Gupta has done commendable work in the field of Academics and Gender perspectives and is an effective leader herself. Chancellors, Deans, Registrar,controller of examination etc,. She explained various causes due to which women are not able to become effective leaders which involves constraint related to Time of work, fear of taking up responsibility, lack of qualification, financial and social restrictions etc. Dr Renu emphasized upon the personal factors due to which women are less in number as leaders in the society such as low self esteem, lack of skills, low career aspiration, chilly climate, discrimination etc. She also discussed lack of some structural factors such as limited opportunities for exercising leadership, bias in recruitment and promotion, omission of critical material on and by women in classrooms etc. due to which there are less women as leaders. |
