Anti-India rhetoric over J&K at its peak in Pakistan
Time to take Delhi for a ride over

JAMMU, Oct 20: Anti-India rhetoric over the Indian Jammu & Kashmir is at its peak in the aggressor Pakistan, also an epicenter of global terrorism. Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) of terrorist Hafiz Saeed, founder of the blacklisted Lashkar-e-Toiba, who is wanted in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, organized a rally only a few days ago, in Karachi against what they called "India's aggression against Pakistan".
JuD's Karachi chief Muzammil Iqbal Hashmi said: "Terrorism alongside border in Sialkot (near Jammu) is a manifestation of Narendra Modi's policy of aggression to take advantage of Pakistan's internal affairs". "India should know that every citizen of Pakistan is ready to sacrifice his life for the protection of his country." The allegation was as baseless as it was preposterous. It was calculated to only incite the Pakistani Muslims against India. It is no secret that it was the unprovoked firing by Pakistan Army in Jammu sector on October 6 that killed 6 unarmed innocent civilians, including women and children, and left another 13 persons injured, some of them very fatally. In was in response to that provocative and despicable cross-border violence that our Border Security Forces retaliated to teach the Pakistani rangers and terrorists a lesson.
JuD is, everyone aware, the Political organ of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), which has exporting terror into India or launching terror attacks on Indian soil to kill the Indians and cause uncertainty in the country. Hafiz Saeed roams about freely in Pakistan and enjoys the patronage of the Pakistani Army, Inter-Service Intelligence and also certain elements in the political establishment at Islamabad. The court case carried out in Pakistan against Saeed for the 26/11 Mumbai attack was a just sham. He was only kept under house arrest for a few days and was set free by the Pakistani court on the ground that there is no credible evidence available against him to punish him.
It bears recalling that India had provided "voice samples" of LeT commanders and even "evidence of presence of Hafeez Saeed in the Pakistan based control-room" during the attack. It is also important to note that the LeT and the JuD have been blacklisted by the US State Department and a Staford University document Mapping Militant Organisations has in this regard said: "LeT began carrying out operations in Indian-controlled Kashmir in the 1990s. It actively infiltrated militants across the Line of Control (LoC) from Pakistan to carry out sabotage activities with the help of the ISI and the Pakistan Army. LeT did not however restrict its operations to Kashmir. LeT also carried out multiple attacks in major urban centers of India, such as the October 29, 2005 bomb attacks across New Delhi which killed at least 62 and injured over a hundred. (In fact it also plotted and implemented 26/11 Mumbai terror attack which was considered to be the worst of its kind to be ever carried out anywhere in the world)". The document, in addition, said: When LeT was officially banned in Pakistan (since there activities still go on unhindered) it resurfaced in the name of JuD. However, now even JuD is considered by US as one of the deadly terror outfits in the world".
The LeT has held activities with Al Qaeda since the early 1990s through its operational commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, who is the brother-in-law of a bin Laden deputy, Abu Abdur Rahman Sareehi. The LeT actively collaborated with Al Qaeda post-9/11. Its leaders "were paid $ 100,000 to protect Al Qaeda leaders of Arab origin in Pakistan, house their families and arrange for their travel from Pakistan. In March 2002, senior Al Qaeda operative Abu Zubaydah was captured at an LeT safe house in Faisalabad.
What is significant is that all these have been partners-in-crime within Pakistan. Last year, during Eid, Saeed was spitting venom at a post-prayer public rally in Islamabad and 'officially' the Government was totally unaware of the incident. The dreaded ISI and Pakistan Army have used the services of the likes of Hafeez Saeed in furthering their anti-India goals, including Kashmir, since that is the sole issue that can keep their nation together. Most of the political parties which are out of power go out of their way to keep the Army happy since they know that without these initiatives, it would be difficult to survive in that nation. At such a juncture, even if Nawaz Sharif had the slightest intentions of maintaining good relations with India.
It is clear that Pakistan will not change its attitude towards India and terrorist organizations like Jamaat-ud-Dawa. It is committing a grave blunder by taking recourse to unprovoked firing at the LOC and IB. It is not the old Congress-led UPA dispensation that is at the helm of affairs in Delhi; the present dispensation is the one that is headed by Narendra Modi, who will not condone any of the Pakistani crimes. Pakistan would do well to recognize this fact failing which it would face the enraged Indian wrath.
