Kadipora women demonstrate against water scarcity in their locality 10/24/2014 10:10:10 PM Early Times Report Anantnag, Oct 24: in this southern district, scores of women of Kadipora area Friday staged a protest demonstration against the shortage of drinking water. One of the protestors said that scores of women and children of Kadipora area took to streets and staged demonstrations against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department over the scarcity of potable water in their locality forcing them to fetch water for their household usage from traditional water resources. Raising slogans against the PHE authorities, the protesters alleged the people are left to suffer by the PHE Department from last two years. To register their resentment the women protesters also blocked the road to protest against the PHE authorities while alleging apathy and to seek attention of senior district officials. They threatened to launch an agitation against the PHE department if the water supply was not immediately restored. "We are facing a tough time and gasping for water supply since two years. There is no water and our women folk have to cover long distance to fetch water from other areas or from springs." Naseema Bano, a resident said. Police officials and PHE authorities rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors by assuring the protesters that their demand shall be conceded soon. Meantime when contacted Naib Tehsildar of the area said, "I'll take up the issue with the department and ensure that the locals may not face any inconvenience due to the shortage of drinking water.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
