Babu Singh hails settlement of PoK refugee 10/24/2014 11:12:21 PM Kathua, Oct 24: Former power minister and expected congress candidate from Kathua assembly constituency, Babu Singh hailed the NC-Congress state coalition Government for recommending case of refugees to the union Government. Addressing a public meeting at Kathua Singh said that the Jammu and Kashmir Government has recently approved a one time settlement package of Rs 9000 crore for POK refugees and sent to union government for its further approval and the grant of funds is a great historic step and showed more concern of humanity. Singh said, "One time settlement package POK refugees and Chamb displaced persons which is going to benefit 36000 families with package of Rs. 25 lakh to each family." He further said that being a grass root level mass leader he has been in touch with the issues of POK refugees. "The large chunk of refugee population is denied their basic rights in a plethora of matters including elections to state assembly and panchayats, recruitment in the state government Services and acquisition of immovable property", he added. He further said, "Since Pakistani refugees cannot acquire immovable property, they are deprived of the absolute rights on the land allotted to them by the government under Cabinet order No 578-C of 1954 in the wake of their migration and thus they cannot sell it or mortgage it for the purpose of loan."   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
