Kulgam, Oct 24: A week after the state Cabinet announced more administrative units, residents of Khuri Batpora and Nagam-Noorabad areas of Kulgam district in South Kashmir on Friday again staged forceful protest demonstrations against the Social Welfare Minister and MLA Noorabad Sakeena Itoo, accusing of her of ignoring the deserving segments of the constituency.Residents including men, women and children assembled on Kulgam-Ahrabal road after Friday prayers and staged protest demo against the local MLA Sakeena Itoo, resulting traffic chaos on the road for several hours together. Protesters alleged that the deserving segments in Noorabad constituency have been out rightly overlooked by the authorities particularly by the state cabinet.
They said that the Omar Abdullah government has approved the creation of administrative units in only those areas wherein political ends could meet and interests are served to them. Protesters said that the promises made to them in the past by the local MLA were rubbished by the state cabinet as the area has once again been denied the status of Tehsil. "We collected funds in lakhs, visited her at Jammu several times where she assured us tehsil status to our area but her promises were rubbished by the state cabinet of which she is also a member."
Locals told Early Times. They said that Khuri Batapora is centrally located to at least 12 villages in the area and number of offices of government departments was already functioning in the area. Residents of Nagam Noorabad also accused Sakeena Itoo of ignoring the area as according to them it has got Nayabat before 35 years.
"We know this all happened because we didn't support ruling party because of their anti-people policies." said Fayaz Ahmad, a resident. Locals said that the protests would intensify further if their demands are not met in the near future. "We travelled to Srinagar four months earlier and met Sakina Itoo.
She promised is that no area from Kulgam will be ignored and justice will be done properly in terms of administrative units. Now we have again been ignored," said one of the local.A week earlier state cabinet on 16th of October announced and approved more 200 administrative units after approving the recommendations of Khurshid Ahmed Ganai-led expert committee constituted to examine the feasibility and demands for creation of new administrative units in the left-out areas of the State.
