Arrangements for All India Siksha Sangharsh Yatra discussed

JAMMU, Oct 24: A meeting was called to discuss the arrangements for All India Siksha Sangharsh Yatra 2014 (AISSY) against communalization and communalizations of education to be organised from November 2 to December 4, 2014.
According to press release, in the meeting the delegates of various democratic, socialist, progressive, rational organisations representing their respective organisations participated and discussed all the arrangements and programmes for AISSY-2014.
The Yatra was announced on September 28 on the occasion of Shaheed Bhagat Singh's birth anniversary across the country. It will be flagged of from five different points in north, south, west, east, north-east parts of the country on 2nd of November in solidarity with 14 year long struggle of Irom Sharmila against AFSPA.
The five Yatras would be culminated in Bhopal (MP) on December 4, 2014 in solidarity with the struggle of victims of Bhopal Gas Tragedy.
In the meeting it was decided unanimously that the North Zonal Yatra shall be flagged off by Shaheed Bhagat Singh's nephew Prof Jagmohan Singh and Prof Madhu Prasad from Jammu on November 4.
The Yatra will be handed over to organisers of Yatra in Punjab in Pathankot on November 6 in the form of mass meeting.
There will be a series of programmes in Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts of J&K which will be organised in the month of November with aim to mobilise people for culmination programme in Bhopal. These series of programme include signature campaigns, pamphlet distribution, wall posters, wall writing, mass meeting and rallies. Through these activities the main focus will be on the twin danger of communalization and privatisation of education in J&K.
While addressing the meeting master Shivnandan a social worker emphasised the corruption and growing transfer industry in state education department. Whereas amir-ud-Kasana of Gujjar Bakarwal United Conference concerned over the alienation of marginalised sections in education system. However, he also emphasized the role of mother tongue in medium of instruction with due space to local languages. Also Senior Advocate Jameel Kazmi J&K High Court, Jammu emphasised the importance of secularism in education.
Among other who attended the meeting included Shammi from Saksham Samaj Sankalp, Vikas from Lok Jagriti Manch, Akram from Gujjar Bakkarwal Students Welfare Association, Om Prakash Khajuria (human right activist), Akash and Sandeep from Jammu Kashmir Physiotherapist Association, Dr. Ram Lal Sharma, Dheeraj Bismil from Progressive Students Association and Nitin from All India Student Federation.
