Transporters take Soibugh people for a ride

BUDGAM, Oct 25: There seems to be no end to the woes for the people of Soibugh Tehsil as the transporters have been taking them for a ride. People of the Soibugh and the adjacent villages are facing a lot of problems because the traffic goes off the roads even before the sun goes down.
The recent flood has worsened this problem so much so that after 5 PM passengers fail to find the public transport facilities which often makes them to converted journey.
People from the areas like Magam, Mazhama, Kanihama, Sanoor, Razwain, Russu, Chewa, Aarath and many other villages visit Budgam main in connection with business or other day to day work but the means of transport aren't enough to make the journey smooth. "I am an employee working in the Deputy Commissioner's office. I make it to the bus stop much earlier since there is always dearth of the passenger vehicles. Even after waiting for the forty-forty five minutes I fail to find any means of transport. With the result I always reach the office late," said Gulzar Ahmad.
Even if a Budgam bound passenger vehicle is found, one could see the passengers on the roof top making it impossible for a person to think of boarding it. The female passengers are more helpless in this kind of situation with many of them reaching to their destinations in the afternoon.
People say that the return journey is even more troublesome for them because the drivers prefer to reach their homes without thinking as what would happen to the passengers desperately waiting for the transport facilities.
On being asked why the drivers suspend their services too early, a sumo driver namely Abdul Majeed said the roads leading to the different areas of the district are absolutely in pathetic conditions making the driving a difficult job in the dark hours.
The journey in the late hours causes damage to their vehicles. Majeed went on saying that the areas through which he drives his vehicle are the most neglected parts of the district because the sitting MLA from Budgam has done nothing over the years as for as the development of the roads is concerned. On the other hand he has facilitated the macadamization of the lanes and by-lanes in his native area.People of these neglected areas say that in other parts of the valley there are healthy transport facilities because of the better road connectivity. People further say that the National Conference exploited the people for the votes only and in return did nothing which otherwise was their moral responsibility.
