Early Times Report

Srinagar/Kathua, Oct 25 : At least ten people suffered injuries two of them critically while dozens others were detained after the police foiled Public Health Engineering (PHE), Daily wagers and Casual Labors protest rally on Saturday against the Governments 'rigid stance' in fulfilling their long pending demands.
Holding banners and placards reading 'We want justice, release our pending wages, and consider our regularization' hundreds of the PHE daily wagers under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir PHE Joint Employees Union (JKPJEU) this afternoon took out a protest rally form PHE headquarters here and assembled at Srinagar's Press Enclave to highlight their demands.
The protestors shouted anti-government slogans demanding fulfillment of their long pending demands including release of awaiting salaries and regularization of jobs. As soon as the protesters tried to march from PHE Provincial Control Room to Press Enclave, contingents of police deployed in advance intercepted them and locked the main gate and baton charged the protesters who defied the police cordon and managed to reach the venue amid anti government slogans.
"Our today's protest is aimed to highlight our genuine demands. This government despite repeated assurances did not bother to release our wages which are pending for the past three years. Besides, our demand of regularization is yet to be considered so we have decided to continue our protest till our all legitimate demands are fulfilled," Sajjad Ahmad Parray told reporters before being detained.
He accused the Government of using oppressive tactics to undermine the PHE daily wagers genuine demand.
"Come what may we will not succumb before any pressure tactic of the government and continue our protest till the Government accepts our demands as per our aspirations," Parray added.
Meanwhile, the protesters tried to proceed towards Lal Chowk the commercial nerve center of the city to highlight their demands however the deployed police swung into action and resorted to baton charge which resulted into the injuries of six people two of them grievously. The injured protesters were later shifted to the hospital for treatment. Police also bundled dozens of the protesters into already awaiting police vehicles and detained them at nearby Kothibagh police station
Public Health and Engineering Employees Association today staged protest demonstration to regularization the daily wagers in front of PHE office at Kathua.
According to press release, PHE employees association has criticized the Omar led state Government to adopt the apathetic approach in regularizing the daily wagers and "Alleging sabotage by National Conference leader and Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather in taking steps for regularization of daily wagers in the state, PHE Employees Association president Kuldeep Kumar said He added that "it was intentional dilly-dallying tactics by the state government on the regularization of thousands of casual workers engaged from time to time since 1994."
"Justice is being denied to such a large number of casual workers since 2009 when Cabinet Sub-Committee was constituted to look into the grievances of all sections of employees and workers," he said. Kuldeep Kumar said that Sham Lal Sharma a Congress leader and Cabinet Minister of present NC-Congress coalition government claimed that National Conference ministers were blocking the process of regularization of almost 62ooo daily-wagers because there were more daily wagers from Jammu region. Due to which the anti Jammu intention of the Omar Government has entirely been exposed to the common people of the state, Kuldeep Kumar said.
