Three day workshop inaugurated at CUJ | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 29: A three-day workshop on "Scholarly Writing and Plagiarism: Key Concerns" organised by Department of Human Resource Management & Organizational Behaviour (HRM&OB) was inaugurated by Prof. Devanand, Vice Chancellor, CUJ today. According to press release, in his presidential remarks, the VC highlighted the issues that need to be deliberated upon during the workshop and for envisioning an aAnti-Plagiarism Cell that would help in curbing the menace of Plagiarism. He further stated that Central University of Jammu aims to become center of excellence in research for its societal and applicative relevance. Prof. K.L Chopra (Padma Shri), Former Director IIT-Kharagpur, Honorary Professor IIT Delhi and Bhubaneshwar and an expert on anti-plagiarism addressed the gathering regarding Ethical Responsibility in research and highlighted academic corruption prevailing in the institutions of higher learning and its disastrous fall out on lowering the academic standards. His discourse included how various types of plagiarism have become endemic in research works so as to gain fraudulent career promotions and recognition. Prof. Chopra suggested different ways how willful indulgence in plagiarism could be avoided so that human competencies could be leveraged for genuine research outcome for the lasting welfare of the societies living in a globalised era. Earlier, Prof. Aima, Head of the Department of HRM & OB in his opening remarks mentioned that CUJ embarked on starting research progammes across various disciplines though being still in infancy but the objective was to strengthen and baptize young faculty about the quality research. Resource persons for the workshop included Prof. Hardeep Chahal, HOD, Dept of Commerce, University of Jammu and Dr. Kakali Majumdar from SMVDU. They conducted the sessions during the day 1 of the workshop. Scholars and faculty from Panjab University, Aligarh Muslim University, BGBSU Rajouri, University of Jammu, University of Kashmir, LPU Jalandhar, and Central University of Jammu were the enthusiastic participants of the workshop. Dr. Jaya Bhasin, Associate Professor formally welcomed all the guests and the participants and also informed that Thomson Reuters provided the research material for the workshop. The inaugural function was conducted by Anjali Pathania and Asif Ali proposed the formal vote of thanks. Scholars and faculty from Punjab University, Aligarh Muslim University, BGBSU Rajouri, University of Jammu, University of Kashmir, LPU Jalandhar, and Central University of Jammu were the enthusiastic participants in the workshop. |
