This entire process is very dangerous and may lead to casualty anytime" read the letter of CISF Commandant. He also stated that two similar letters had been written to the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar on 13-11-2013 and 3-07-2014, but nothing was done on part of the administration to stop this illegal practice, barring a temporary break of few days.
Meanwhile DC Kishtwar directed ADC Kishtwar to examine the concern expressed by the CISF Commandant . Acting on the directions of DC Kishtwar, ADC Kishtwar directed Naib Tehsildar Kishtwar to conduct on spot visit and submit a detail report in this regard.
It is pertinent to mention that illegal mining is going on at several places in Kishtwar District all along Kishtwar-Thatri stretch of Jammu-Kishtwar National Highway, Kishtwar-Padder National Highway, Kishtwar-Sinthan National Highway and all along the banks of river Chenab in terms of both stone extraction as well as extraction of sand.
The local people while showing concern said that all the people involved in illegal mining of stones as well as sand are politically influential persons and both administration and police have turned blind eye towards this illegal practice going on in the District since long.
