Party leaders denied mandate challenge Omar, Wani on their home turf | NC needs no Opposition! | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Oct 29: Senior functionaries of the National Conference (NC) who were denied mandate in the ensuing Assembly elections have dared Omar Abdullah to contest from Ganderbal against them. They have come out openly against the Chief Minister and his confidant Nasir Wani who had marginalized senior leadership of the party and gained undue importance in the organization. Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, former NC worker while talking to Early Times said that 'he would be delighted if Omar Abdullah contested upcoming Assembly elections against him on his home turf and dared that leaders like Omar cannot contest and win. Giving vent to their anger, the former worker of the party said, "NC belongs to Nasir only, even founders of NC like Sheikh Nazir and Mustafa Kamaal are forcefully supporting party programmes as they have no other option, Nasir who joined party only yesterday is all authority in NC now and let me tell you NC which is in shambles is only because of Nasir." He said that on Omar's direction he managed people from Ganderbal to accompany Nasir Aslam wani in 2008 to file nomination papers to save credibility among people of other parties and added that like Omar and Nasir all other NC leaders of Srinagar District in particular this time cannot even manage handful of people to accompany them on the day nomination paper are submitted and added that wining elections for Omar and NC is now a distant dream. Pertinently Bhat who according to sources is likely to contest on Congress ticket hails from the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's constituency, Ganderbal and remained in news for a long time after he accused NC top brass of receiving huge sums through Syed Yousuf against Legislative Council berths. Another angry NC ousted leader, Ghulam Nabi Saloora who is likely to contest independently from Ganderbal said that people of Ganderbal are fed up with Sheikh dynasty now who according to him did nothing for common masses of the area despite enjoying unparalleled victories on the turf since the time of NC founder Sheikh Mohd Abdullah. Saloora said that NC is den of corrupts due to prevailing lobbyism and favoritism which according to him is the reason that senior most leaders are switching over to other parties and said that Omar must be knowing that failures of coalition Government led by Omar Abdullah gave birth to many leaders who are all set to contest against him in Ganderbal. |
