Feeling suffocated in LS, Beigh wants to return to LA | Threatens to quit if demand not met | | ET Report JAMMU, Oct 29: The internal party rivalry could mar the chances of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which is hoping to emerge as the single largest party. Former Finance Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh has reportedly threatened to quit the party if he is not brought back to state politics. Source said Beigh has been holding back channel communication with a major national party. Source said Beigh had dropped hints that he could give support to it also. Beigh was reluctant from day first to contest for the Parliamentary elections but was forced to contest by party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. He showed his displeasure by not participating in any debate in the Parliament, quite a contrast to his role in the State Assembly. Beigh feels suffocated in the Lok Sabha as most of the time allotted for deliberations is consumed by party President, Mehbooba Mufti. The former Deputy Chief Minister is also uncomfortable with Drabu's growing influence in the party. He is becoming the economic voice of the party, a role played by the Beigh till now. Incidentally it was Beigh who was instrumental in making Drabu the economic advisor of the State, when Mufti was the CM and he was the Finance Minister. Beigh also helped him in becoming the chairman of the J&K Bank. The PDP sources said that Beigh tried to get close to Ghulam Nabi Azad in the previous PDP-Congress regime. Mufti had to force him to resign. "We need someone to keep a check on Beigh and Drabu has been picked up and cultivated for this reason. He may be brought back but he can't dictate terms anymore," said a senior party leader. |
