Beigh criticizes election boycott call | `Separatists enemies of people, vote is our democratic right' | | Majid Nabi Srinagar, Oct 30: Lambasting separatist for their 'anti people activities', principle opposition, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), today asserted that such defiant tactics by separatist parties won't severe Kashmir from union of India. PDP senior leader and Parliamentarian, Muzzafar Hussain Beigh, while criticizing separatists' election boycott call in the Valley said that the people for significant change on ground must involve themselves in the electoral process. "Those giving boycott calls are actually the enemies of people. Vote is our democratic and constitutional right, we must defy those giving boycott calls and I want to tell them that no matter how much they work against people of Kashmir and against union of India, Kashmir will not go anywhere and will remain as it is today," Beigh who emerged as victorious form North Kashmir's Baramulla constituency in recently concluded Parliamentary elections, had posted on micro blogging site 'Facebook'. Beigh, who was the Deputy Chief Minister in Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's regime from 2002 to 2005 is likely to return to state politics as the party is likely to field him from his home constituency Baramulla in the forthcoming Assembly elections the dates for which have been already announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI). He appealed people to give a befitting reply to separatists boycott call by participating in the elections wholeheartedly. "Your vote is our strength and ultimately the strength of our country," posted Beigh. Pertinently, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had on October, 25 announced general assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir in five phases between November 25 and December 20 with counting of votes on December 23. Despite constant efforts by ruling National Conference (NC), to defer elections in the state for sometime in the wake of devastating floods last month, ECI turned down the NC demand saying" there is no reason, no justification for delaying the polls but giving EC's mandate is to hold elections on time," Interestingly, as soon as the ECI announced elections in Jammu and Kashmir, separatist parties started anti election campaign in the valley asking people to stay away from the process. |
