Cong banks on Muslim votes in 13 Jammu constituencies | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 30: Congress is banking on 13 constituencies where Muslim votes could be decisive in the Jammu region. The party is also strategizing to ramp up caste considerations to resurrect itself in the forthcoming elections. The party trailed in 24 out of the 37 Assembly constituencies of the Jammu region in the Parliamentary elections. The party hopes that it can make much of the success in these elections. The strategy is part of the plan of Congress to take back its dominant position in the Jammu, which has received a beating by the BJP. The party is fielding candidates on this consideration also. It has a structural base in every constituency. It is with this calculation it has decided to repeat the sitting MLAs in the first list released by it. Some of the MLAs, who were Minister also, despite facing allegations, have squeezed funds for development of their constituencies. Though, there was no audit of the funds used, it got them more connected to their constituencies. The party hopes to blunt out the development plank of the BJP by citing development works carried out by their MLAs. The Congress game plan is to mix religion, caste and development equations in their programme. There is thinking in the party that it can still form the government in coalition. The plan is to prop up more candidates who could cut into the votes of the BJP and reducing it to few pockets of the Jammu. It will also try to propagate that voting for BJP will go in waste as the party will not be in the government and since Congress has worked for the cause of the Jammu region, it is the only party which can do it again. In Muslim areas it will send the message that minorities are not safe in the Modi and the development issue is the façade of the BJP while the real face is RSS, which has been demonized by the Congress successfully. It will try to instill more fear in the minorities to consolidate its vote. |
